How do aerobics swims work?
There is an Aerobics Trophy to be earned each year by the club which earns the most points. The swims which qualify for these points are: 400m Freestyle 800m Freestyle 400m Breastroke 800m Breastroke 400m Backstroke 800m Backstroke 400m Butterfly 800m Butterfly 400m I.M. 800m I.M. Five 400m Freestyle swims need to be done during the year, each in a different month. An average time for the 5 swims is calculated and there is a point system which takes into account the sex and age group of that swimmer. There is a booklet with this point system which is kept in the aerobics folder (or check the website). Feel free to browse through it. It is important to realise that no matter how slow the swim is done, your club still wins points for that swim. There is also our own club trophies to be won for those swimmers who gain the most points during the year. You dont need to be a fast swimmer to have a chance of winning our trophies, just do lots of aerobic swims! The same rules apply for the other 400m and 800m swims listed above. You can do a timed 400m and 800m swim of each of these strokes in the same month if you wish, but only one of each stroke in the same distance. You may wish to do the whole lot of these swims or you may wish to do only the five swims in one stroke and one distance. However many of them you decide to do, you are still gaining points for the club (and yourself!). There are longer aerobic swims which you can do which gain a lot more points and you only need to do one of each of these swims for the year. You can swim each of the following strokes and distances if you wish, or only one of the swims. It is up to you. They can be done in Freestyle, Breastroke and/or Backstroke. These swims are: half_hour, three quarter_hour, 1 hour and 1500 metres. For the half_hour, three quarter_hour and 1 hour swims your distance is taken from the closest 25m that you have actually finished swimming when the set time elapses. Enjoy your long distance swimming!
