The HELLA River Swim - Bicton Bay and Back (BBB) is swum over 5kms or a 1.6 kms course and is a real test of skill given the tidal conditions. The part of the river used for the BBB Swim is very clean and is regularly flushed out by the ocean. It is not uncommon to be accompanied by some dolphins while swimming the course. This swim is a great experience. Those who participate have a sense of achievement and a feeling of mateship with their fellow competitors.

The 1.6 km swim begins at the Bicton foreshore near Bicton Baths and heads downstream for 800m. Participants round a buoy near Aquarama and return passing East Fremantle Yacht Club, finishing at the Bicton foreshore. The race is in a sheltered section of the river in picturesquesurroundings .

The 5km race follows the course of the 1.6km swim then continues upstream to Blackwall Reach, and return to Bicton Baths.
